✻ New York Fashion Week ✻

New York Fashion Week is a truly magical time...after all it IS a week dedicated to fashion.  There were so many shows but below are a few of my favorite looks.

Rachel Zoe: There was lots of white for spring and as usual boho but there were a few structural pieces that I liked.
This was a cute little lace dress.  I know it wasn't a scene sealer but I thought it was cute.

Micheal Kors:  I loved all of the sear-sucker and polka dot fabulous-ness at this show!  Plus the safari chic vibe was great.

This is such a cute print!
Victoria Beckham: There was black, white, pink, and maroon-mostly back and white.
The top is interesting

Kate Spade: Could this line get any cuter?  OMG...

Honor: So I really loved this collection, plus the runway was also really cool-it felt modern but not overcrowded with things.

This is just so cute

I love these pants!
Fierce spring suit

I know that this dress could be a little
matronly but I think it's super cute

This is cute...like super cute.

I know that there were a lot of great collections that I didn't touch on but there is always style.com if you want to look at some of the other collections.

☼ August 2013 Vogue Magazine ☼

I know that the August issue of Vogue is practically irrelevant once the September issue comes out, but I did really like the Daft Punk/Karlie Kloss shoot as well as the 'Bonjour, Brooklyn' shoot.

These shoes in the 'Bonjour Brooklyn' feature were pretty cool...

I just think these shoes with the socks are awesome...
Here is the whole shot... cute dress too--expect
something on fall florals cause I love that!

And here is my own version.
Shoes are Steve Madden and I don't know where the
socks are from...

If you would like some more heel and sock inspiration, here are some cute pictures.

Now, onto Karlie Kloss!  (If you don't already love her, I found this from a few years ago-adorbs)  Can I just say that I love the way all of her photos tell a story, and the Daft Punk shoot was totally awesome...  It was about clothes for all ages and just to point something out here- this Givenchy was worn by Amanda Seyfried on the cover of Elle.

Worlds Worst Blogger

Okay so it is quite possible that I am the worlds worst blogger...it has been far far far to long.

Although the year is almost over I am going to set myself some blog related goals:

  1. I am going to post at least once a week
  2. I will make the video edits quality so I may post less than once a week (look at me already making excuses for myself...kidding, I really do want to make everything decent, yo!)
  3. I will add a variety of content to the blog that can be tied back to fashion but may not be directly related to fashion.  (Just to keep things interesting)
Okkkkayy..... Lets give this a go, but first below is my penance:

I was caught off guard here- plus here is a hint: I'm NOT blogging...

◊ Pattern on Pattern ◊

I took a bold step today in my fashion: I wore two prints together.

Now, this may sound strange, but somehow for the past few weeks I have had my eye on this outfit, waiting for a day where I would be brave enough to wear it.  To be honest, I am not totally positive that the outfit is really cohesive but I didn't match pattern and the color scheme was relatively the same, so for the first pattern on pattern, I think I am okay??

In order to dress the look down I wore low-top grey Converse, and can we all just take a moment to recognize the fact that Converse are totally fabulous shoes?

I am so proud of myself in this photo because I managed to not look like a complete idiot while jumping.

I feel that this picture is very deep-or I am crazy.

In case you didn't notice, I had my hair in two little bun pig tails, and I seriously couldn't stop smiling all day.  There is just something about little kid hair...

Sunday Blues: June 23, 2013

I know I have neglected my blog for quite some time...and I feel awful.  If you would like to hear my explanation for my absence, read below, otherwise just skip to the links and enjoy!

Basically I have been very busy trying to finish up a few classes- and that has taken up the bulk of my time.  In my remaining time I have been reading fashion blogs and various magazines with friends, but have somehow neglected my dear blog.  Anyway, onto the links:

  • This week we are in Milan for Men's fashion week.  I am cautiously interested in a menswear inspiration for fall, so I have been paying a little bit of attention-plus the models don't make it BORING...  Read this to get the latest updates.
  • It is kind of hard to ignore the Kardashians unless you live under a rock or don't have wifi.  You have to give Kim props for actually going for a name that doesn't start with a K.  But can you blame her?  The family monogrammed towels would read K.K.K.  Read all about North West here.
  • I remember being pretty young and watching a very short story on the news about Paris Hilton getting arrested for something.  It was like a car accident that I couldn't look away from, and before I could do anything, my parents turned the T.V. off.  Now Paris Hilton's home is in the movie "The Bling Ring" and here are pictures of her at home. I want her dogs.
  • One of my favorite non-fashion bloggers, The Everywhereist was interviewed by BBC.  Here it is.
  • All I can say is YAY!

¤ The Bracelet ¤

It is funny how people are drawn to things- like that dress that you never wear but still keep in your closet.

A while back when I was looking at bracelets I was drawn to a specific one.  It wasn't exactly my traditional style, but it would soon become my go-to piece of jewelry.

As I became inspired by bohemian fashion, I went back to that bracelet, and it is now a staple in a lot of my outfits.

¤ Zach Sobiech ¤

A few months ago, I found Zach Sobiech's song. "Clouds," on Youtube.

On May 20, he died.

I just found out about his untimely death today--I had been meaning to set up a Google alert, but I never did.  Zach was able to touch so many people and really make a statement about not only cancer, but saying goodbye.

I know that this post is long overdue, but I just wanted to share Zach's story.

Here are some links that do the story more justice than I can.

Sunday Blues: June 9, 2013

Summer weekends seem so much better than other weekends.  (I am not really sure how it feels that way...)I am off to enjoy the day, but here are some links that I thought were interesting.

  1. I never used to call myself a DIY kind of girl, but throughout the past few years, I have gotten into this kind of stuff.  Here, you can learn how to make your own nail polish splattered purse.  It is very Carrie in The Carrie Diaries.
  2. Have I ever said how much I love RookieMag?  In case you didn't know that about me, I have two links here for you.  One is about wearing retro bathing suits!
  3. I think this is a sweet story
  4. The science of pick pocketing...Always interesting.
  5. After reading this post by the Everywhereist, I can't help but think that blogging about something instead of taking action to solve the world's problems.  Then I remembered that the whole point of my blog is using fashion to not only express yourself, but to inspire change.

Fancy Pants

There are just some days in the summer that are not sticky hot, and brightly colored pants are acceptable.  Today was one of those days for me, and I wore what are quickly becoming one of my favorite pairs of pants.  Traditionally, I have not been one for stand out patterns, but lately, I have been slowly venturing into what I used to think was clown territory.  I still have not built up the courage to wear pattern on pattern, but who knows?  Maybe I will one day...

Enjoy your Sunday, after all, it is finally JUNE!

The Girl in the Pink Scarf

I'm taking a break from my videos until I am done with school--three more days, but whose counting?

Anyway, I am wearing all black in this outfit with a pop of pink color.  In honor of the fact that my snowball flower tree, (I think that is what you call it,) bloomed, I went with a summer look with winter roots.  The flowers really do look like snowballs, so it is fun to interpret that.

The thing that I love about fashion is that you can take something as simple as a flower and interpret it.  My interpretation--dark colors and a summer scarf.  WARNING: If you are going to wear a scarf in the spring/summer months, it helps if you wear a lightweight one.

Outfit:  The shirt is from H and M, the shorts are from Old Navy, and the scarf was a gift from a friend.

That Hippie Swagg

"I'm a former hippie, so clothes are important to me - your clothes defined you in that period. I guess clothes still define people."
-John Hughes

I think that today's hippie is  boho fashion.  I am beginning to fall in love with the boho clothing--the long, flowing outfits represent the essence of freedom to me.  The hippie movement was one of rebellion against the common way of life, and boho rebels against the idea that fashion has to be put together.  Your hair can be out of place, and you can wear one too many bracelets.

Video Notes:  I am wearing a Forever 21 top, a Target skirt, and the scarf was thrifted I got my ring from Forever 21 as well.  Song is called Places to Go by the Leftover Cuties.

An Apology and an EPIC Playlist

I know that it has been a week and one day since I last posted.  (Yikes! It seems worse when I actually write it.)

As a new blogger, I really wanted to post every day, but alas, time goes by and the hours are not spent with my dear friend, Netflix.

Even the things that I enjoy doing seem to be put on hold when I find a new t.v. series to ruin my life.

Grrrrrrah! (Strange sound effect)

A few weeks ago I started to watch Make It Or Break It.  Fatal mistake, especially before my school's end of the year finals.  Note to self--do you really need more things to waste your time with?

The only thing that I have done in the past few days feel bad about myself for not having a lifelong dream to train for.

Making my video features is a little time consuming, so in the meantime, I am giving you a list of totally epic songs.

Gatsby

Let me just say that I absolutely love 20's fashion.  I would have loved to live in this time period as a city girl going to parties and clubs.  The dresses and headpieces are absolutely amazing!  I know that a ton of people have done posts about The Great Gatsby because of the movie, but I did one anyway.

n
I am wearing a headpiece that I made using black ribbon and flowers.  I also put on one of my favorite dresses that has a messy skirt made of sequins.  (They are not sewn on in an organized way, which I just love for some reason!)  For part of the video, I had a white boa, which may be a little cliche, but it is always fun to play with.

Goodbye Winter

Where I live, it snowed two weeks ago.  There has honestly been no spring weather whatsoever, which means no spring wardrobe.  Today was the first day that the temperature was hot, so I have decided to take the opportunity to bid adieu to winter and hello to the warm months.

The dress that I am wearing is one that is pretty casual.  It is great because you can throw it on after getting home from school or work and still feel cute.

Pajamas in Public

Since yesterday, I seem to have come down with some virus.  (That's why I didn't post yesterday.)  Because it was pajama day at school yesterday, and I did go to school for a while before coming home.  (I was of course, in my pajamas.)  In the mornings, I take a class at a school that is different from my home school, and I had forgotten that nobody there would wearing pajamas.

Upon walking into the building, I was greeted with stares and of course, the "nice pj's" comment made me feel a lot better about myself.  I held my head high and realized that to the outside world, I must look like a complete idiot.  I was probably going to be known as pajama girl for the rest of my existence.

While I don't exactly condone wearing pajamas in public unless you have a legitimate reason, there is a teachable moment.  Fashion is an art form that teaches us to push boundaries and express ourselves in a way that we can't do in any other way.

Like it or not, people will stare.  It is no fun to go through life blending into the background, so even if you don't go wear patterned pants, at some point, take the leap.

The Toilets at the Met

I hear Anna Wintour went punk... Just kidding, but check out NY Magazine here.

I just finished watching the red carpet coverage for the Met Gala this evening.  The clothes, the shoes, and toilets?  Yes, that's right.  The exhibit seems to have a model of the bathroom at CBGB punk club.  Now isn't that nice.  All of the celebrities and designers have been invited to an event where they can look at a bathroom.

All kidding aside, in the parts that I saw, there was only one instance of fur, and I couldn't quite catch who was wearing it.

Now, on to the clothes!  I felt very inadequate considering I am only wearing a blue blouse and jeans.  Then Katy Perry Stepped out in a Dolce and Gabbana dress.  Then there was Sarah Jessica Parker in a headdress.  (At one point I am pretty sure I saw Katy Perry point at said headdress.)

Oh to be living in New York and to see all of the famous people.  Jimmy Fallon and his wife were there, and so was January Jones.  Everyone came out to see what high fashion calls punk.  At least punk doesn't frequently involve fur.

(I know this is not a very well written post, but I am just trying to put something up every day.  Besides, ain't nobody got time to make sure every post is perfect.)

Sunday Blues: May 5, 2013

On pretty much all of my favorite blogs, people stop posting for the weekend and just leave you a list of links.  Sunday is pretty much my day of procrastination, and that is honestly why I need someone to post on the day that pretty much sucks.  (I basically spend the whole day holed up in my room procrastinating until about 5.  Then I get all stressed out and end up just not doing things.)  Anyway, here are my favorite links of the week.

  • Check out Go Fug Yourself's Freaky Fug Friday.
  • Tavi Gevinson posted this a while ago on the 5 year anniversary of her blog, The Style Rookie.
  • How a New York Times writer became a hipster.
  • The Glamourai's Shop the Shoot  I love the clothes in there!
  • Style Bubble posted this and I love the pictures--I think the pictures are pretty awesome.  Plus, where can I get one of those eye flower things?
  • Finally, Hello Giggles shares animal inspired fashion
I'm off to work on several incredibly boring tasks.  Enjoy your procrastination!
